the longer I’m here – June 9

6.9

I ran into an old friend today

eyes declining, hair sparse

we talked and reminisced

about times that felt like

yesterday

and then compared notes

about ailments and meds

steps taken and not,

creaks and misses of

yearning

friends and acquaintances

gone, steps taken in vain,

hellos and maybes and

yet to be’s that never

happened.

the longer I’m here

the shorter I’m aware it is.
