duty over love sounds

so antique, except when it

is love of something more

than one’s own emotions.

some loves are worth the cost.

like Jesus laying it down for

the rest of us. or a soldier or

lover, taking one for the team.

how quaint. that we might have

love beyond the immediate

and in the balance find something

eternal.
