amish men raised barns

and the community

came together

work, solidarity, skill,

care, pride, sharing

across time.

now a mailbox carves

our territory. first a choice

then a stake.

family gathering as if

any excuse to do

will do.

and a meal for all,

children skittering at

the edges

with satisfied grunts

at the labor’s real

product.

something lies not so

buried in work, care

and skillings

shared.
