red kettle bell ringing – December 10

12.10.2014

dads with daughters

on tiptoe open

tiny fists to put coins

into the red kettle

roughened workmen

stuff in dollars and

grandmas and old

guys in slippers

put in more

teens pass by tied

to smart phones that

leave them dumb to

hand-held bells

and Mercedes lady

leaps past to get a

Starbucks then jets

to zoom away.

but the deli man’s

soup warms more

than cold footing,

a gift for his giving

it makes both our days.

red kettle ringing,

is happiness gathering

people hearts watching

and christmas all day.
