8.7.2015
remembrances of
dating days, times
anew, friendships
that grew beyond
what first expected
and friends became
lovers became
spouses became
family
and now smile
across tables
and tell stories that
warm the heart.

cut the boards
full breadth
just so
fit the boards
into the slots
as set
measure twice
cut once they
told us.
damn.

8.6.2015
hands on helpers
put in muscle grunt
and even some
skill
to produce a
thing of value for
an other family’s
life.
goodness of heart
reaching across bad
vibes times spaces
to make
a difference.

forest glade primeval
dark, bare stream wending,
older trees down, roots
lifted out of the softened earth
by summer squalls.
breathe in, pause.
one barred owl calls
and a lady love replies.
hey big boy, I’m
over here.
the way it was
meant to be.

broken people
are part of our
lives
and we wonder
how Jesus can
love us
and still let us
go
through such
darkness.
but that was his
way
and who are we
to judge
where hearts other
than ours
find peace and
hope
and joy in lives
opaque
to
us.

sticking with the
ones you came with
brought to the dance
signed the card
made a way for
all the way home.

bicycle pedals push
and pull
at muscles and joints
yet the breeze
gives joy even amidst
the hurt
sailing like a boy
down inclines
that barely angle
but enough
from when my days
were young
and it was all
downhill.

wild buckwheat and buffalobur,
cocklebur and kochia,
lambsquarters, marshelder,
mustard
and nightshade
pigweed, ragweed, velvetleaf,
and charlie
they’re all doing well
along with the corn.
rain o’er the tops, sunshine
where needed
life so abundant
flows up and out
and on.

what did I see
in my mind’s eye
today
a cart of first corn
full of its
season
a voice on the
phone with
insight and care
a face across
the room
wrestling
with frustration
a hand reaching
up to mimic
words spare.
in my mind’s eye
today the words
for this poem
in my mind’s eye today
your face
oh so fair.

friends having fun
playing parts,
displaying their
wares, talents,
carings
the joy is mine
