fat red cardinals – February 27

2.27.2014

fat red cardinals gnarl

onto the tube perches

amidst bitter cold.

how do they do it

Lord.

how do they put up

with what we must

flee and hide from

inside our brick and

wooden caves.

are they more blessed

than we with their ability

to withstand the cold

or more cursed

or does it all feel different

to them with feathers

and fur and nerveless

beaks

while I have to put on my

hooves and fur to walk

doggie in the morning

and put out the seeds.

blessed and beautiful

birds. little leftover

dinosaurs with hollowed

bones that have survived

eons. how does it seem

to you.
