Just family – June 28

6.28

Joe was a surprise. My tall

handsome son explained to

me that this was his love. And

I had to step back, say no no,

are you sure, then OK.

We sit around their dinner table

now, family, chatting about our

days and ways, about getting

plastic up on the windows for

winter’s approach,

about deviled eggs on the table,

pasta and brownies, why this

wine is a good deal, and the

ins and outs of having folks pay

attention to our stuff at work.

Commuters, houses, families

and laughter, thoughtfulness,

care for other’s feelings, and

Lucky the dog who was lucky

enough to find these two.

Eyes to eyes, hand to mouth,

finding our ways in the world

all of us. Up, down, sideways,

surprising and not. Just

family.
