walking fresh powder – February 5

2.5.2016

walking fresh powder

each step deliberate

firm, attention paid

to the squeak of snow

the grasp of cleat

the ribbed pattern

of the one or two

who’ve been ahead,

the curved give-way

of a snow shoe

an occasional look

up and around to

woods and lake

glistening in the

freshness.

life takes deliberate

steps, step ahead

step ahead, with

head down and

attention

an occasional look

up for the view, a

direction check,

appreciation, then

back

to focused step forward

with those who broke

fresh powder, and

tasted the crispness,

before us.
