a partner goes

away, her partner

sitting in the front

row while her

brother and their

son talk of what

a wonderful person

mom was.

and dad just sits,

almost alone, a grown

child to one side

but empty chair to

the other

which is what is,

that empty chair,

the hole

where a partner

used to be.
