January thaw – January 30

there’s something about

a January thaw

that does a body

we walk to the waterfall

where the flows pulsing

behind a yellowing

wall of ice

feed into the widening maw

of deep copper

and piles of fall-gathered

brush emerge

from beneath the

the air opens

our eyes our

hearts and our

winter will pass.
