Vernesta – February 24

2.24.2017 [Vernesta]

Vernesta smiled

at us, the other

seventh graders

who came to play.

small, slight of

build, but wary

of gaze, she

knew something

that the rest of us

didn’t as we said

come out and play

at her fenced in

yard, but she

couldn’t stay

because, wrapped

in a mink

and dressed in

heels and sleek

dress, she had

to go out with

the men that

mom had scheduled

for them.
