a saint anthony day – December 11

12.11.2014

saint anthony, saint

anthony turn around

my lost things today

you found

coffee cup and wrist

watch too. how do I

say thanks to you.

trivial though I know

they be, I pray your

brothers so busy be

to find the lost and

cure the sick, to do

their parts as quick,

quick, quick.

red kettle bell ringing – December 10

12.10.2014

dads with daughters

on tiptoe open

tiny fists to put coins

into the red kettle

roughened workmen

stuff in dollars and

grandmas and old

guys in slippers

put in more

teens pass by tied

to smart phones that

leave them dumb to

hand-held bells

and Mercedes lady

leaps past to get a

Starbucks then jets

to zoom away.

but the deli man’s

soup warms more

than cold footing,

a gift for his giving

it makes both our days.

red kettle ringing,

is happiness gathering

people hearts watching

and christmas all day.

kenya grace – December 7

12.7.2014

do you know how

blessed you are

the girl said? to have

chocolate to drink?

when I had my baby

I had gruel and it was

all my family could

give.

and then she cried,

for the grace that

was now in her

life.

from hands led to

her, and she to

them,

by grace.

the water pushes – December 6

12.6.2014

the water pushes

back.

arms, legs,

torso, trunk

lift that barge,

tote that bale

one two three

four,

wail, wail, wail.

aging bodies

staying well

these are the ones

you want to hang

out with.

stopping by woods – December 5

12.5.2014

full moon trees

sparse against snow

like a Robert Frost poem

christmas lights

through woods

like fairies in wind

breathe it in,

sense it all soft

and clear cold

eyelids wide

at the grace.

jesus’ hands – December 4

12.4.2014

jesus’ hands, making

wall charts to find

homes

making policy state

ments to create

categories

opening doors

for empty

faces.

present in those

who do not even

know

that they are

jesus’

hands.

Friends, take a moment to check out my new book

Hawai’i: Poems from a Promised Land, on Amazon

http://www.amazon.com/Hawaii-Poems-Promised-Leonard-Freeman/dp/150331121X

Here’s a taste

—————————–  [Ocean Views]

Pele oozed her soul

out over land rising

from the sea

coal like landscape

beautified by floral

posturings

air kissed by windward

ocean streams, a touch

of horizon

light brighter than day

floating

in my eyes.

wind chill chill – December 1

12.1.2014

wind chill chill

cut me still

leave me

breathless

losing will.

leave me home

not alone

snug with

my bunny

warm, warm, warm.

olden times – November 30

11.28.2014 [olden times]

rear wheels drive

like in olden times

when knights were

bold and we all

slept in log cabins

before there were

beatles and sync

boys

back in ancient days

like, you know,

the fifties.

parched skinny sky – November 29

11.29.2014

across a parched skinny sky

flocks skim southward

on an unconscious

inner guide we know

nothing of.

aliens from feathers

and fin we observe

but connect not.

stretched afar by

our self-chosen

distractions,

we have lost touch.
