the day after – December 26

12.26.2014

the day after

brings time

for breathing.

always there is

business

busy

and more steps to take

but not

within.

presents under the tree – December 23

12.23.2014

presents under the

tree. exuberant, bashful,

wistful, bright,

homely and homing.

quiet surrounds

their moment.

there is no need

to rush

the opening

seeing them there

under the bearing tree

tells its own tale

of warming

amidst a cold world.

training wheels – December 20

12.20.2014

angels and santas

on the tree

training wheels

for believing

that goodness

cares, that we’d

better not pout

or coal in our

stocking is a

bigger big story

that someone’s

taking notes and

names that will

matter in the end

that someone

actually wants

us to be happy

and that gifts

are what’s really

real about life

that reindeer maybe

don’t really fly or

elves come down

chimneys

but goodness

somehow does.

observation: a poet’s lament – December 19

12.19.2014

what did I observe

today that moved

me

what did I scan

today and

missed

what did God send

me that I

noticed

what did I pass on

and dis

missed.

places of forever – December 17

12.17.2014

golden days and

nights upon

which we slipped

and slept and

wandered

together

to shores beyond

which we never

dreamed we’d

move.

places of forever

and a day

where our souls

melded and

melted

when we found

each other.

tin angel – December 15

12.15.2014

a tin angel dangles

from our lampstand

clanging in her only

clunky way.

small and white, her

chipped halo sends

a word. grace found

here. simplicity.

beauty from a tin can.

body – December 14

12.14.2014

injuries bring pacing

adjustment,

consideration

of body

once to be used, now

appreciated, for

usefulness, finitude,

complexity and gift.

credo the resurrection

thereof.

a shortage of tree – December 12

12.12.2014

a shortage of tree

a short tree

a tree

a

time to plant it

and buy

another

me

and charlie

brown.

–  –  –  –  –

[a shortage of tree, part 2]

no, she says,

the tree stays.

we bought it when

she was feeling low

and melancholy.

and because it

brought glee,

the tree

like me

is here to stay.
