niblets are out – April 25

4.18.2016

niblets are out,

trees surround

the pond, sprigs of

dusting green

vitality, life,

squeakings and

croakings, blats

quacks, honks

and hisses

this my lady love

this my mate

all of our breathing

come to this.

creation, creation

so beautiful here.

yard work – April 24

4.23.2016

dirt pours

through my fingers,

rock set free,

ground and worn

down fine

to let out the

life hidden

within.

lanyap – April 22

4.22.2-16

lanyap, grace, friends

appear out of

time gone by

and forward

we drop in to each

other’s lives, over the

transoms of time and place

gifts of the One.

mated pairs – April 16

4.16.2016

trumpeter swans

nestle atop the

muskrat house

built of weeds

along our

path.

we step carefully,

quietly, so to not

bother them as

we pass, look,

and hold

hands.

it’s said that if

the female

dies, the

male will

remain

alone.

mated

for life.

airport fever – April 14

4.14.2016

airport fever

one more run

between gates

at O’Hare I

swear you can

taxi to Toledo.

cell phone lives

fill the time

every thumb

committed

to touching something

other than what’s

immediately

present.

lone duck – March 10

4.10.2016

lone duck dipping

beak down down

into the cold

spring waters

paired ducks in

the shallows

oblivious to

him.

we say better

luck next year

fella.

goldilocks – March 9

4.9.2016

this one’s too soft

this one’s too hard

this one’s just right

mattress shopping.

God duty – April 7

4.7.2016

Why did you take

my daddy away,

he asked me

I didn’t, I told him

but with my God

collar on I was

the one who

had to tell him

that his daddy

was gone

after he’d blown

his head off with

a shotgun.

God keeps us safe

my daughter said

with her perfect reasoning

you’re my daddy

you keep us safe

you’re God.

No I said, taking my

collar off, we have

a deal going

God keeps your mom

and me safe and

we keep you safe.

at least I pray

that’s the way

it is.

silhouettes – March 5

4.5.2016

the black cat hangs

on our wall

looping down

at doorways edge

to catch the mice

that never arrive

and bat the head

of the dog not

beneath.

red kettle – April 4

4.4.16

red kettle, red kettle

whistle us home

tea leaves and

chamomile

set on to drone

keen us and calm

us and keep our

throats clean

with mother and

dainties all

loverly steam.
