4.3.2015
blue jays shriek
in their lonliness
looking for
a mate
lovers listen
to the whistle
of trains
running late
time changes
nothing
but the passages
and gate
I find my heart
sound
with you
as my fate.

voices in a chapel
not private nor
hushed.
women speaking
of ancestors
neither private
nor hushed.

4.1.2015
the night when the
chills come, I wrap
deep into my blanket
wool cap on my head,
toesies in socks, sniffles
and sneezes tearing
at muscles
and the angel of mercy
and generosity brings
to me a cup of warm
chocolate
and pats me, and
snuggles my covers,
and watches
from her green
chair stanchion
across the room.

grizzled hospital photo
a friend lain low grins up,
faith holding him close
in arms and heart.

3.31.2015
trees swaying in winds
bolder than daylight
slower than haste
cobalt blue sky
reflecting the half
light of mid day
changed now season
snow gone, ground
bare, waiting, birds
rap-a-tat at dappled
deer while pond ice
melts away from edges
to accept more and more
life
along the banks.

3.30.2015
body awareness
maintenance
care for
body appreciation
feel of, touch
gratitude
for the wisdom
of the giving
gifter
who made you.

we cheered you on
especially when we
thought it would go
our way
but when it didn’t
follow our script
we turned
and still do.
forgive us our stupidity,
cupidity, rapidity,
done-deedity.
we don’t make it
home
without you.

3.26.2015
Illusion, misdirection,
that shows us things
we wish to
believe
even knowing the
truth of tricks
and fast
hands
a willing suspension
of disbelief.

poems come
when they
want to
or when the
writer opens
a vein
to let them in

graying eyes, a
droop of eyelid.
thinner skin out,
tougher in.
younger men ignore
you now. it is
their time,
even while you
still try to hold
reins in your hands.
or at least nudge to
the horses, this way
or that.
